'Alright so if I calibrate this with just enough force and detonate at exactly 53.57 seconds after my ascent from the atmosphere that won't only send out the elliptical patterned blast but also a shock wave knocking them back as well, but wait...then would the plasma have to-? Oh god what am I doing? They...they'll be alone, I mean, they'll have eachother but...Christian...she, she won't have anyone besides maybe Donatello...I-I can't just...idk if... Oh come now Zayton you know full well what you're doing, if earth is to be saved, it's what has to be done...so if I just-'
Christian was mindlessly wandering the halls of the Ulixes, they'ed be at earth soon, they're almost home... When she heard quiet talking nearby. The professor occasionally talked to himself as he worked. She loved that about him, loved everything about him. He was always so bright, cheery, full of energy. Ontop of that he was extremely intelligent and caring aswell, albeit a bit awkward at times. She grew to see him as a father figure these past few months. She didn't pay all that much mind, till she heard this. She freezes and listens closer. What she hears nearly mortifies her.
"Yes...y-yes that would work, even if it's the limiting reactant, my core would be well over enough to make sure there's nothing left of the fleet after...and the "heart of darkness" will finally be gone for good..." He says from a green chalkboard he had stored away. Sometimes it helped to have tangible things when making calculations. Which he was writing nonstop as he spoke to himself.
"Zayton...?" She asks quietly, he gasps lightly.
"CHRISTIAN!" He turns sharply to meet her, knocking over the board. He groans and quickly picks it up, she walks over and helps set it how it was.
"What's going on professor?" She asks quietly, looking at him. He looks back at her.
"What? Nothing." He denies outright.
'Oh this is not good this is not good I can't tell her what's going on I can't that'll ruin everything...!!!! Wait, wait maybe not, maybe if I could-oh who am I kidding?! She knows I'm lying!!'
"Professor..." She presses, looking directly into his diodes of eyes. Seeming to look straight through his presumably nonexistent soul. "What, is going on? In regards to your core?" She asks, her voice soft, yet demanding at the same time. He stayed motionless a while.
'Oh I knew it!!!'
He paces in a small circle before looking back to her. "Swear to me you will tell no one else." He says sternly, but his voice, it was laced with nervous energy, guilty energy.
"P...professor I can't just-"
"Christian please, no one can know, especially not the boys, Casey and April. I can't risk this mission getting compromised. Swear you won't tell." He repeats. After a moment of contemplation she nods slowly.
"I won't tell them, I promise..." she murmurs.
"Good." He says, his voice softer now, more forlorn...
"What kind of a mission is this...?" She finally asks.
He sighs shakily. "I....I-I'm, I need to-Doh-okay you caught me alright?!"
"Caught you in what?"
"I, I-d I can't just... I won't be, going to earth with you and the others, that is not something I will be capable of...." he murmurs guiltily. Looking down at his feet. He looks up to find her confused, a little scared even. He quickly checks to make sure no one else was there. "My core is that of fusion, my ship is powered by dark matter. You know this, correct?" He asks. She nods. Still confused. Eyes expressing a desperate need for more. "And, well, considering how unstable they can be, it's just kinda...putting two and two together right?" He asks quietly, a look of horror overtakes her face as she shakes her head in disbelief.
"Professor, y-....you can't be serious this is some kinda joke right...?!!"
"Christian, I...I'm not a comedian, I'm a scientist... besides even if I was I wouldn't joke about something like that no matter how funny I could make it."
"B-but...but you can't...! Zayton you can't just leave!!!" She yelps. He looks at her.
"I-I've calculated every other possible solution, there is none... if earth is to be saved, this is what has to be done. You all have paid the price for a mistake I made. And I have to be the one to fix it, even if at my own expense..."
"This, this isn't just you though!! What about Donnie?! What about April?!?!"
"Christian please you're making this way harder than I wish it could be..." he essentially pleads to her. She shuts her eyes turning away from him, trembling slightly of emotion. "Christian..." He pleads quietly. She crosses her arms protectively. In a manner of almost hugging herself.
"Z-Zayton you, you, can't leave...idk what I'd do without you..."
"Judging by the way you had previously behaved with the boys, you'll be fine, I can promise that..." he says quietly. She doesn't move, he reaches for her and he's suddenly wrapped in a hug, Christian trembling in his pearl white metal arms as he slowly put them around her.
'Oh no no no no please don't cry Christian I'm sorry I'm sorry I know how hard this must be for you I'm sorry...!'
"There has to be another way. There just has to be... Don't go Zayton, please don't go...I-I can't, I don't..." she whimpers quietly. His heart breaks.
"I-I've tried literally everything else, nothing else works...I-I'm so sorry Christian..." he says sadly, almost choked up if that were possible for an android. "If there was another way this conversation wouldn't be happening... please christian, you mustn't tell them, every second we have is precious and I know they'll try and stop me if they know. Which I cannot waste my time with. It's inevitable, it has to be this way...I-I'm sorry...!"
"I understand... and I.....I-Ik you are...Ik..." she whispers quietly. Voice trembling... the two tighten their grips on eachother and stay there a while.
"Christian...I love you, and, I love the others...please, tell them that for me when this is all over okay...?" He asks in a small voice. She nods a bit. Burying her face in his shoulder. Eventually, the two reluctantly lets go.
"We're almost to earth. We'ed better get to the bridge." He says as he makes his way there. Christian on his tail. Soon enough, they made it to earth and Zayton had a secret to reveal to the rest of the group...it, wasn't very well received...
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?"
"He's, at least trying to fix things now, his heart's in the right place...!" April defends.
"He doesn't have a heart, he's a robot!" Raph snaps. Christian glares icily at him.
"He may have built it, but past is the past, he is trying to fix things, we all make mistakes and people can change if they want to. He did. You seem to forget that he does in fact have the capacity to feel emotion, something commonly linked to whether or not that person has a "heart". He is trying to fix things, he cares about us. He keeps things hidden because he knows they'd do more harm than good if they're revealed... I suggest, you zip it, and trust him. Has he ever done anything to intentionally hurt you? I don't think so. In fact it was the opposite, he's done nothing but help you, keep you safe. How bout have some respect and faith in him? He's risking his neck for all of us to get our home back because he cares about us and wants to fix the mistake he's made. Yes, we are doing the same for him. But aren't we taught that's what family does for each-other? This man has given us shelter, food, teachings. And the ability to get our old home back. Now before I lose it I advise that you show some respect. And have faith in this man as I do. Believe me when I say you'll regret it if you don't." They all look at her confused. She hadn't hardly ever gotten this mad before.
'Ugh good god christian why did you do that?! Now they might be suspicious there was no need for you to do that I could've handled it!!!!'
"Whats gotten into you?" Leo asks, more confused than anything. Christian falls silent. Crossing her arms defensively and looking away.
"Maybe if you cared like I did you'd see how unfair your treatment of him is Leonardo."
"My treatment o-? Okay look this man had put us through countless dangerous situation because of something HE DID! ARE WE SUPPOSED TO IGNORE THAT?!"
"He's done it to save OUR home. Not his. OUR. Home. He's done nothing but help us. He's never willingly put us in a situation he thought was dangerous. He's changed, and working to fix things now. That's what should matter Leo. Let me tell you something you're gonna regret treating him this way soon."
"Well I don't care, I want no part in it. I don't want any part in anything he has planned." Leo says storming out. She scoffs.
"Have fun dying, fearless..." She spits. The air is soured by a somber, confused, untrusting feeling. Of course, they ended up needing to fish leo out of space. Zayton had silently gotten back to work and explained the plan. Conveniently leaving out the whole suicidal bombing part. Christian staying silent the entire time. But there was opposition, even Don didn't trust him...
"Well, you'll be coming with us so that won't be an issue." Raph says drawing his sai
"No. I will not. And if you will not do as I say, you are no longer wanted on this ship..." Zayton says coldly. Hints of anger. But that's mainly due to the frustration of the situation. Christian knew that.
They're dropped. Christian and Zayton sparing one final glance at eachother before the plan was set into motion.
"He, he saved us..." Mikey said.
"No he didn't Mikey, he's trying to get the generator!! He used us!!"
"Leo, I swear, to god, you'd best check yourself before you make yourself look like a complete. Idiot." Christian spits and takes off. The triceratons are defeated and Zayton takes the generator.
'I'm sorry my friends, it had to be this way. I hate needing to deceive you. But I knew You'd try and stop me if I told you, something I hold in high regard and deep gratitude..."
They all look up. Watching as the ship flew toward the fleet.
"Wait...I, I think I get it now..." don says. Christian just shuts her eyes and looks away. "He, he's powered by a fusion core, and, his ships powered by dark matter, he said that's the only way to destroy the generator..." He says quietly
"Fugitoid don't do it!" Mikey cries, despite obviously not being heard. The ship blows up, taking the entire triceraton armada and the generator with it. Christian bites her lip hard, it was over...
"He said to tell you he loved you." She says, voice shaking, eyes shut as tears slipped through them. They look at her. She opens her eyes to reveal the pain and anger. "Just as an FYI." She says sassily before quickly making her way back to the lair. She shuts herself in the room the boys had given her and cried gently.
"Chris..." Don says gently. She didn't seem to acknowledge his presence or advancements as he sat by her. Pulling her into his arms. "If it means anything...we know our doubles can trust his... and, Leo's sorry, for the way he acted...all of us are, we just, didn't know..."
"I know you didn't..." She says quietly. "He told me, because I found out...he made me promise not to tell..."
"He....made a noble choice...I promise. This wont've been in vain Chris, we'll get through this. All of us." He brushes her hair from her eyes. "Together, okay?" His mahogany eyes ever soft and loving as they gazed into hers. She looks back. Seeming to relax if only slightly. She nods. And hugs him. Burying her face in his shoulder before sobbing once more. Eventually she fell asleep in his arms. As did she.
'I, I'm sorry. I know how hard this must be. I wish there was another way...but, if I know one thing, it's that you all will have eachother. And that means you'll be okay. I'll hopefully see you again soon...' Were Zayton's thoughts as he powered on in the midst of the space carnage.
